The road unfolding…

Kabir Kadre|2 months, 6 days ago

The blue musical chimes sing in the hot evening wind as the heat wave boils through.

5 o’clock came suddenly today though I feel like we are starting to cut a groove around here. Stephanie arrived early today for her first former “solo” shift. No one watching would’ve known. Her easy grace and mastery of focus shone through as she instinctively began to tune the house to the coming day… Doors open to let in the cool morning air; notes read from previous day’s reflections…

She got me up and out of bed, made breakfast and in parallel continued to organize the house and tackle a stream of tasks… Her help today was seamless and by the time she disappeared in the midafternoon, the house was a glow from her touch.

Patience rolled through, at first just dropping off some supplements she had picked up for me from Soulstice where she was beginning to open her private practice office. Once she settled in though, we got her situated with a user account on the office machine and the printer fired up, the space is becoming a functional system for her needs now as well.

LB added his charm and life to the day, spending some time in the hot home gym he’s started to craft in the garage, playing joyfully with the community bustle at hand, and watching (a bit anxiously 😉 the NBA playoff games waxing the season away.

He stepped into formal Care Partner mode as Stephanie made her way out the door and together we knocked out a few system refinements and cleared a few technical glitches – getting him online with a few of the digital tools and continuing to support his rise into Mastery of the household – awareness and skills training.

As our young community was bustling through the day, I found myself focused on moving forward a particularly nuanced STAGES Assessment – this took the lion’s share of my attention until the afternoon when I pivoted to the week’s financial attentions, today closing the old payroll account in favor of the new.

Little piles continue to come and go as the various aspects of the space undergo refinement with the emergence of our new collective. Bicycle pump, repaired, has returned to its station in the garage, in its place a pile of wash rags has appeared on my desk reminding me to research their original purpose and intent. The vacuum cleaner, broken, still stands at attention in the office doorway, waiting for its fate to be determined – to repair or recycle…

“Go bag” rests patiently behind me awaiting its introduction to the housemates and extended team (really as much as anything, waiting for its quarterly refresh of perishable supplies.) I created this resource a year or two ago after the second fire in the valley below encouraged us to take refuge elsewhere. Now that I think about it, might’ve been wise to grab it when we left the other day due to the gas leak?

To be fair I do think we had everything turned off and secured for that affair. 😉

As things around the house continue to come into harmony with the resonance that gives this home it’s special glow that people “feel” walking through the door, that inner MettaCare sensation finds itself more and more reflected in the coherent dialogue with collaborators more external, and permeable to these walls…

After spending most of 2020 feeling like I was falling into a dark abyss, where the practice was to see through the illusions of falling, darkness, and abyss, this very week perhaps has begun to feel like an upswing, as though some sacred draft has finally caught the underside of our wings and a sense of lift returns to the sense of living…

I’m just thinking I may have neglected to mention that my beloved brother from the central coast has also… Looking for the words… “Applied his love and care”, conspiring informally but meticulously with our nucleus of a care field, Tomás who among many other things holds an RN, has continued to stay vigilant, open, and flowing his healing care wisdom into the eyes, hearts, ears, and hands of Patience directly, and our digital notes and records of all things medical.

I do find myself in awe of this chrysalis that surrounds me…
