I UNDERSTAND
I AGREE!
To say, "I understand and I agree" is to see through the guru's eyes, the transformative power of God, and act on what one sees. "Gu" means darkness and "ru" means light, so the "guru" is that which turns darkness into light. To see through the guru's eyes is to see through the clear light of truth.
"Understand" means to "stand under", as in to stand under a great tree, where the soothing shade of the tree completely covers, enshrouds, encompasses, envelopes, nourishes and saturates our being. The trunk is the teaching and the sound of truth. The roots are the chain of blessing, all the illuminated souls both known and unknown who hold aloft the light of truth throughout the ages of human ignorance. The leaves are the activity of the spiritual community to bring the highest light into the deepest darkness and transform external being.
"Agree" means to see the whole picture as the guru sees it. When we stand under the teaching, we can see through the eyes of that which is made of truth. When we see, we have the power to act. In the moment of seeing, our fear is released, for fear is the shadow of doubt. When we can see, we can act, because we are not standing in the shadow of doubt.
