2005, quarter two
So much silliness, so much adventure!
The end of April saw me in dire straits - finding myself hospitalized with a severe urinary tract infection, I found no alternative but to take matters into my own hands...
Sunday night
Admitted to the emergency room on Sunday evening we started right away rallying decent food and a fun atmosphere to the hospital - by dinner time, I was feeling notably improved with the insertion of a Foley catheter to relieve the bladder tension.
From Sunday evening through Thursday afternoon I spent only about ten hours alone in the hospital and managed to not suffer one bite of what passes for food there. Surrounded by loving company, healthy and delicious food and snacks, and just the right balance of supplements and home remedies, we effectively claimed sovereign territory inside the walls of the hospital compound. What fun we had!
Celebrate good times!
With an infusion of antibiotics (avoid when possible) and four days of bed rest I was fit and ready for my next adventure!
Leave the hospital Thursday, jumped off the cliff on Saturday...
Paragliding for Possibilities is an annual event to help those with spinal cord injuries to aim higher. What an opportunity! With the assistance of certified pilots, people in wheelchairs come, and leave their wheelchairs behind as they soar into the air for the ride of a lifetime. There really is so little that can be said about this experience that conveys anything at all, anything that can be said save this: go and do this yourself, it is worth it.
Me in air!
Out of the hospital, and into the whirlwind, paragliding on Sunday and to the park on Saturday for earth day. I can certainly recommend this kind of behavior as a remedy to five days in the hospital.
Then mother's Day, and mothers visit. For one week and then the big surprise! Mother leaves and a few short days later we have new house guests - my daughter and her mother arrive to stay with us for a week... quite probably the most wonderful week I have ever known. I and my daughter, Jett, never having spent any real time together finally have an opportunity to meet and get to know one another. (!)

There is something more beautiful about the love a parent can feel for their child than anything I have ever known. Something that inspires gratitude on the deepest level.June arrives amidst the swirl of many friends, living here for recovery therapy, on their way home for the summer or moving on to further therapies.
The end of May and beginning of June also find me in bed recovering from a persistent pressure sore of mysterious origin. Again, as with the hospital before I have an interesting event calling me to recover...
Almost fully recovered and after spending nearly eight days in bed I muster my strength and determination for a daylong visit to Los Angeles to attend a teaching on "The Impermanence of Life" given by a visiting lama from Tibet. Home again, and not too worse for the wear - two more days in bed and off again for another wonderful talk this time from the Japanese lecturer, Masaru Emoto, on how consciousness effects water!

So much silliness, so much adventure...
I suspected this was going to be a very good year - and so far I have not been disappointed...
With love, and endless gratitude,
